Merge Music Festival

Merge Music Festival is a conceptual event that I created to celebrate the return of in-person events after the COVID-19 pandemic.

As virtual events painstakingly continued for more than a year, festival goers had to forgo many of the tangible experiences that make festivals so great. In creating the branding for the festival, I wanted to focus on more hand drawn looking elements, producing a human touch to contrast the apparent absence of it from the past year.

The dynamic curved lines in the branding express movement, again something that was missing from virtual events as we would experience them from the comfort of our couch. I kept the colours heavily saturated as a nod to the imagined intensity of returning to in-person events after such a long absence.

Since these elements needed to be applied from stage scrims to tickets, it was important that I create a range of elements with the flexibility to address these varied needs.

The designs were made to convey a lively energy, echoing the excitement of standing shoulder to shoulder with thousands of strangers, all singing the same song and sharing the same experience.
